EVENT DESCRIPTION

Event Type:  Lecture

Title:  Stretch-induced deformation as a model to study traumatic brain injury to the blood-brain barrier

Description:  Hector Rosas Hernandez is a graduated from the University of San Luis Potosi in Mexico in 2008 with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and Chemistry. In obtained a Mater’s and a PhD degree in Bioprocesses in 2011 and 2015 respectively, both from the University of San Luis Potosi. In my doctoral work, I evaluated the effect of the reproductive hormone prolactin on the induction of barrier properties in brain endothelial cells and how inhibition of the production of this hormone induces an increase in BBB permeability in the rat. I was awarded a postdoctoral fellowship at the National Center for Toxicological Research/FDA in August 2015. His work at NCTR has been focused on characterizing the effects of stretch-induced deformation as a model to study the effects traumatic brain injury (TBI) on the blood brain barrier in vitro. I am also working in characterizing if TBI induces Parkinson’s disease-like neurodegeneration and the role of exosomes in TBI.
