Title:  On the detection of tissue damage and metabolic disorders in experimental TBI using diffusion and CEST MRI
Description:  Traumatic brain injury (TBI) and the associated post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are the significant clinical problem occurring in approximately 2% of the U.S. population. Three out of four patients experience mild TBI, termed a “silent epidemic”, in part because many cases are not recognized with current imaging technologies that hinder the development of pharmacological or cellular therapies. Today advances in MRI, including diffusion tensor imaging (DTI), magnetization transfer imaging (MTI), chemical exchange saturation transfer (CEST), susceptibility weighted imaging (SWI), dynamic contrast enhancement (DCE) are changing the face of TBI diagnosis. Using a rat model of mild TBI, Dr. Tu provides insights of these recent developments in neuroimaging by interrogating the radiological-pathological correlations to establish the fundamental basis of these imaging biomarkers for mild TBI.
