Title:  Biomedical and Clinical Language Processing
Description:  Dr. Demner-Fushman will present Natural Language Processing research and services supporting LHC’s/NLM’s mission to facilitate dissemination and exchange of scientific and other information important to the progress of medicine and to the public health. The talk will cover methods for extraction of information from a wide variety of health-related text genres; an in-depth view of the Clinical Question Answering approaches developed by Dr. Demner-Fushman and their outgrowth into answering Consumer Health Questions. The talk will also present methods for combining image and text features in a multi-modal information retrieval system. The talk will then present the applications and services supported by the above research. The talk concludes with the challenges and opportunities to contribute to these fascinating research areas that have practical implications for our health.
