Event Type:  Seminar (This is an NIH Science event)
Title:  Collaboration and direct interaction between Hsp90 and Hsp70
Description:  The Proteostasis (Protein Homeostasis) Scientific Interest Group (PSIG)* will present a seminar on Tuesday, September 19, 12:00-1:00 pm, in Building 35A Room 610 (ground floor) entitled "Collaboration and direct interaction between Hsp90 and Hsp70" by Dr. Andrea Kravats, NCI, NIH. Dr. Kravats works in the laboratory of Dr. Sue Wickner, whose group is focused on elucidating the mechanisms that underlie protein remodeling carried out by molecular chaperone machines. She will present recent work on two highly conserved ATP-dependent molecular chaperones, Hsp90 and Hsp70. In E. coli, Hsp90 interacts directly with Hsp70 and the two chaperones function collaboratively in protein reactivation. In eukaryotes, protein remodeling by Hsp90 is more complex and numerous cochaperones as well as Hsp70 are required for remodeling activity. The mechanistic information from this work is providing a better understanding of protein remodeling by Hsp90 and Hsp70 and the role of each chaperone in the process.

Due to current security measures at NIH, off-campus visitors are advised to consult the NIH Visitors and Security at:
