Title:  Biological stress reactivity and alcohol use disorders – from early intramural NIAAA to the present
Please join us for the inaugural meeting of the NIH Psychoneuroendocrinology Scientific Interest Group on April 26, which will feature a lecture titled "Biological stress reactivity and alcohol use disorders – from early intramural NIAAA to the present" by Dr. Bryon Adinoff, who holds the Distinguished Professorship of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Research in the Department of Psychiatry at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.

The meeting and lecture will be held in FAES classrooms 1 & 2 in Building 10 on the NIH Bethesda campus. The meeting begins at 2:00 p.m. with a general discussion and brainstorming about the newly formed Psychoneuroendocrinology Scientific Interest Group, led by Drs. Lorenzo Leggio (NIAAA/NIDA) and Wendy Henderson (NINR).

The lecture will be held from 2:30 to 3:15 p.m., followed by further discussion.

About the speaker: Bryon Adinoff, M.D., who is also the Director of Research in Mental Health at the VA North Texas Health Care System, is a renowned expert on the neurobiology of addictive disorders and on neuroimaging and neuroendocrine probes of alcohol and drug addiction. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship in the NIH/NIAAA Laboratory of Clinical Studies; has published more that 150 articles and chapters on the biology and treatment of addiction; and is Editor-in-Chief of The American Journal of Drug and Alcohol Abuse. His presentation will provide an overview of his work on the relationship of stress and drinking in individuals with alcohol use disorder, the interaction of stress and HPA axis reactivity in relapse, the relevance of race, and stress-related central mechanisms.
