Event Type:  Symposium (This is an NIH Science event)
Title:  NIH/FDA TB Research Initiative World TB Day Mini-Symposium
Description:  The mission of the NIH Intramural Tuberculosis Research Initiative program (NITBRI) is to promote scientific interactions between NIH investigators engaged in research about tuberculosis (TB), which continues to be a major worldwide public health problem. To that end, NITBRI will host a mini-symposium to bring together investigators from the great D.C. area in honor of the annual World TB Day, which commemorates the date on which Robert Koch announced the discovery of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which causes TB. This local meeting will be held on the afternoon of Friday, April 28, 2017 from 11 AM - 4 PM on the FDA’s White Oak campus in Silver Spring, MD, in Building 75, Room 1535-1540. Research groups from throughout the greater DC/Baltimore area will provide short presentations to acquaint each other with their ongoing research. The keynote speaker, Dr. Eric Rubin from Harvard School of Public Health, will present research regarding designing human TB challenge models to test new TB vaccines, for discussion by the group as a whole.
